IHM Welcomes KHL Defenseman Kristaps Sotnieks

by Chris White

International Hockey Management is proud to announce the signing of Latvian defenseman, Kristaps Sotnieks. The 6’0, 207-pound left shot played for Dinamo Riga in the KHL (Kontinental Hockey League), last year. Born January 29, 1987, Sotnieks is looking to take his game to Western Europe.

The Riga-born defender is a veteran of over 600 KHL games, and more than 100 career points. The two-time Olympian is also a three-time IIHF World Championship Top-3 Player on Team, for his home country of Latvia. He also represented his nation at both the U20 and U18 IIHF World Junior Championships. In 2018-2019, Sotnieks led the entire KHL with 99 Blocked Shots. In addition to Dinamo Riga, Sotnieks also played two seasons for Lada Togliatti in the KHL. Kristaps has worn a letter three of the last five clubs seasons, in addition to earning the same honor three times for country, and was the captain of Dinamo Riga in 2015-2016.

International Hockey Management President, Chris White, commented,

“Kristaps is a well-established pro and national team member. His is the meat and potatoes type of defender that competitive teams need on their roster. He has displayed consistency while adding double-digit point production six of the last seven seasons. He plays a hard, physical game that features a big shot and all-out effort in the defensive areas. We are excited to work with Kristaps as he looks for new opportunities at a time in his career when he still has plenty left in the tank.”

WELCOME TO THE IHM TEAM, kristaps!
