IHM Client Maxim Maltsev Signs With Karlskrona HK

by Chris White

International Hockey Management is proud to announce that client, Maxim Maltsev, has signed with Karlskrona HK in HockeyEttan (Sweden’s Division 1). The Tyumen, Russia native stands 5’8 and weighs 170 pounds. Maltsev was born February 6, 1995. The natural center is a right shot, and also has experience playing the wing. Last season, Maltsev won the Extraleague Regular Season Championship, the Salei Cup, and the Belarus Extraleague Cup with his club, Yunost Minsk. Notably, Maltsev is the first Russian player signed in HockeyEttan, this off-season.

Yunost Minsk also competed in the Champions Hockey League, which is comprised of 32 top professional clubs from throughout Europe. Going back to his formative years, Maltsev led his MHL clubs in two of his four seasons (Serebryanye Lvy St. Petersburg & SKA-1946 St. Petersburg). In his career, he scored 129 Points in 216 Games Played. In 2016-2017, Maltsev won the World Winter Unidversiade Gold Medal with Team Russia, and was named VHL Prospect of the Week, twice, in his professional debut season with SKA-Neva St. Petersburg. That year, he was third on his team in scoring, as a rookie, in Russia’s second-best pro league. This season, Maltsev finished with a stat line of: 48GP-9G-12A-21PTS. More impressive, was that he led Yunost Minsk in scoring for the Champions Hockey League, with a stat line of: 8GP-2G-5A-7PTS.

Since 2012-2013, Karlskrona HK has played five seasons in Allsvenskan (Sweden’s second-highest pro league) and three seasons in the SHL (Sweden’s top league). This year, KHK will compete in HockeyEttan, after a financial relegation from Allsvenskan. The club is looking to get right back into Allsvenskan, and Maltsev will be an important piece of the puzzle to help them get there. The last time Karlskrona was in HockeyEttan was in 2011-2012, when they went 36-15 and were promoted to Allsvenskan. This year, they will be looking to do the same.

Karlskrona HK Sports Director, Erik Belin, said,

“There are many who long for news, so we from the Sport Office want to offer a present. We have managed to sign Maxim Maltsev to Karlskrona HK. A technical center that can also act as a winger, he will be an important piece of the puzzle in team building.”

Max noted,

"Karlskrona is a good team which played last season in the second Swedish league. When I found out about their interest to me, I didn’t hesitate to sign a contract. I want to show all my best sides on the ice. Of course, my number one task is to help my new team get back to Allsvenskan. It will be my first experience in a country where people don’t speak Russian, but I’m ready for this experience; it will be interesting. When last season ended I traveled with my family to the west of Belarus, by car. Then, I came back to Russia and started my trainings. I trained all Summer. Sometimes I had difficulties with on-ice trainings because of COVID restrictions, but most of the time everything was good. I’m excited about this season, and joining to my team as soon as possible!"

International Hockey Management President, Chris White, added,

“We are very excited that KHK and Max have agreed to terms, and will jointly be fighting for promotion to Allsvenskan, this year. Max and his family will be in great hands, and well taken care of. KHK is a big club with lofty expectations, and they will provide a fantastic opportunity for Max to showcase his skills in Sweden, and continue to build off of his recent successes.”

CONGRATULATIONS, maxim!
