IHM Client Nordin Signs With Hisingen

by Chris White

International Hockey Management is proud to announce that client, Filip Nordin, has signed with Hisingens IK, of Sweden’s HockeyTvåan (Division 2). The 6’3, 194 pound left shot defenseman was born August 20, 1999. Originally from Varberg, Sweden, Nordin has spent the past two seasons in the United States, playing in the Tier-II Junior A Western States Hockey League. Nordin spent 2018-2019 with the Long Beach Bombers, and then played for both the Las Vegas Thunderbirds and defending-champion El Paso Rhinos, this past season. Nordin’s career junior stats in the US are 101GP-9G-64A-73PTS.

Hisingens IK play in Gothenburg, Sweden, where Nordin is a resident. The Division 2 club has agreed to allow for Nordin to cancel the contract agreement if he chooses to attend an NCAA school, in the Fall. Nordin has been accepted to one school, and the Men’s Ice Hockey Coach is very interested in adding Nordin to his roster. Thus, a decision might be coming in the near future for the well-rounded defenseman, who is a former forward. Hisingens IK play in the Södra A group, within Division 2.

The former Frölunda HC youth product played his U16/J18/J20 years with Hanhals IF & Bäcken HC, both in the Gothenburg area. Nordin’s rookie year overseas was an impressive success. The big skilled forward was asked to convert to defense, where he finished the season with 35 Points in 50 Games Played, and was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year. In his second season, he was named an Assistant Captain, and, prior to the COVID-19 season cancellation, had a very legitimate opportunity to win a Thorne Cup Championship. He had also increased his production, with 37 Points in 43 Games.

International Hockey Management President, Chris White, commented,

“Filip is a big skilled defenseman that should be able to make a very seamless transition to Division 2 hockey, after a solid junior career abroad. I think it’s fantastic that Hisingens IK has not only given an opportunity, but also understands that Filip has a very quality option at the NCAA level, as well. The type of flexibility and professionalism made it easy for Filip to make his decision to sign. Whichever path Filip eventually chooses, we will be there to support him and help guide his career."

Hisingens IK Head Coach, Tobias Karlsson, added,

"We are happy that Filip Nordin decided to join us in Hisingen Hockey. He is a tall defensemen with a big range and a good first pass; those qualities will be good for us this upcoming season."

CONGRATULATIONS, filip!
