IHM Client Sam Marit Signs With Stenungsund

by Chris White

International Hockey Management is proud to announce that Canadian forward, Sam Marit, has signed with Stenungsunds HF in Sweden's HockeyTvåan! Sam played the 2020-2021 season in the British Columbia Hockey League (Canadian Junior A) for the Coquitlam Express. Sam is from Richmond Hill, Ontario, and was born on March 6, 2000. The left shot winger stands 6'0 and weighs 177 pounds.

Sam had a strong season with the Express, gathering 14 Points in 20 Games Played. Notably, Sam managed to play the entire season without recording a penalty. The BCHL had a modified season schedule, due to COVID-19. Marit finished 4th in scoring for Coquitlam, who went 6-11-3 in the season-unique Coquitlam Pod, with the Surrey Eagles and Powell River Kings. In 2019-2020, Marit tallied 23 Points in 42 Games, splitting time between the Markham Royals and Brampton Admirals of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Stenungsunds HF finished the COVID-19-shortened season with a 3-4-2 record, 5th in Södra A. Stenungsunds will feature several other import players, this season, and are optimistic about their upcoming campaign. The Stringers play their home games in Norumsborgs Ishall.

Coquitlam Express Associate Coach, and 200+ NHL game veteran (New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, & Phoenix Coyotes), Ryan Hollweg, commented,

Sam is a good kid that works his butt off. He is a heart and soul kind of guy. He has great speed and I think he has the ability to be successful at the next level.

Sam noted,

I could not be more excited to sign with Stenungsunds HF, and can not thank them enough for allowing me to begin my senior career at such a young age. I look forward to arriving overseas and getting to work with the goal of winning a championship!

International Hockey Management President, Chris White, added,

We are thrilled for Sam. Stenungsunds HF saw the value and promise in this young player, and took a chance on him. Sam will not only be in what is the widely-regarded best region for HockeyTvåan (Södra), but will be in an overall great situation as far as housing, and having a lot of ice time available. Steunungsunds has some top import players that will help mold Sam into a good pro, and the club's leadership from Sports Director Henrik Rehnberg to Head Coach Marko Sretovic has been fantastic to work with. There aren't many import players going directly from North American junior hockey to play in Europe, so we are very excited about this opportunity for Sam.
