IHM Client Urbanec Signs With Dukla Jihlava

by Chris White

International Hockey Management is proud to announce that client, Tomáš Urbanec, has signed with HC Dukla Jihlava in Czech 1.Liga. Urbanec is a 6’2, 181-pound left shot forward, born February 24, 1999. He is entering his rookie season, after an unprecedented junior career, which sadly ended before one final attempt at a championship. Tomáš is entering his second year as a member of the IHM Team.

Jihlava is located between Prague and Brno, a few hours northwest of Urbanec’s hometown of Zlín. Last season, HC Dukla Jihlava finished with a record of 31-16, good for 3rd-most points in the league. Recently dubbed the Chance liga, it is the second-highest professional league in Czech Republic.

Urbanec finished his six-year junior career as the Western States Hockey League’s All-Time Leading Scorer. His amazing career stat line was: 266GP-173G-215A-388PTS. Urbanec spent parts of five seasons with the Long Beach Bombers, winning four Western Division Championships, and setting the franchise records for Games Played, Goals, Assists, & Points. In 2017-2018 he registered a career-high 101-point season. During that time, he was drafted by the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League. Urbanec finished his career with the reigning back-to-back Thorne Cup Champion El Paso Rhinos. He broke the WSHL All-Time Scoring Record as a member of the Rhinos, and was eyeing a chance to finish his junior career by hoisting a trophy.

International Hockey Management President, Chris White, commented,

“I would be lying if I didn’t say this announcement is a little extra special. I have had the pleasure of watching Tomáš work hard, develop, adapt, produce, and dream, since he was 15 years old. He is an elite goal scorer, who possesses such a unique release. He has the potential, work ethic, and talent to reach the highest level of hockey in Czech Republic. I think HC Dukla Jihlava is going to be very happy with this signing, and will be rewarded greatly for taking a risk on a young player that has been overseas for a very long time. This was a very fair contract offer, and one that I think will pay off well for both player and club."

Tomáš added,

"Thank you to IHM for all the hard work they have put it for me during this off-season. They were able to put some options together, but ultimately I chose to stay home and sign with Dukla Jihlava. Dukla is a great organization, and I am happy to be part of it."
