IHM Welcomes Russian Defenseman Valeri Vasilyev

International Hockey Management is proud to announce the signing of Russian defenseman, Valeri Vasilyev. The 6’1, 218-pound left shot played for Molot-Prikamie Perm in the VHL, last year; Russia’s second-highest pro league. The 30 year-old is from Togliatti, Russia; groomed in the Lada Togliatti hockey school. Vasilyev was born March 17, 1990, and is looking to play in Europe, this season.

It has been over twelve years since Vasilyev earned a Silver Medal at the 2007 IIHF U18 World Junior Championships, with Team Russia. That same season, he also made his KHL (at the time, it was called the Russian Super League) debut, at the age of 17. The following season, he played 40 Regular Season and 5 Playoff Games in the KHL. The strong skating and shooting defenseman has gone on to win a Ukraine Championship with Donbass Donetsk in 2012, and play over 400 VHL Games, scoring over 100 Points, along the way. 

Vasilyev has also played 77 KHL games, 3 Champions League games, and won a Gold Medal for Team Russia in the 2015 IIHF Winter Universiade tournament. Vasilyev’s 2015 Russian World Junior Championship squad featured future NHLers, Nikita Filatov, Andrei Loktionov, Slava Voynov, Dmitri Kulikov, & Dmitri Orlov. Vasilyev has been the Top Scoring Defenseman on his team, three of the last five seasons, and six times over the course of his career.
